Then....and Now

Couple of visits in the past two weeks to Whetsted.....

Then.....

First visit with DH....misty foggy and most of the birding was done by ear.....yes....the fog was that thick....could just make out some Goldeneye on the pits.....and a few other ducks...but....most of it was by ear.....

Luckily 2 Egyptian Geese flew over our heads....and a Kinfisher perched on the near side of middle pit....

Other than that....all the usual victims were.....er....heard......

Now

Yesterday.....24 February.....a visit by myself....

Those Egyptian Gesse were around....with many Canadas and Greylags on the pits and in the fields....5 Goldeneye.....usual Pochard numbers....2 Mute Swans.....two Great Spot Woodpeckers were drumming it out.....

A Med G9ull was hanging ouot with about 50 Black-headeed Gulls and a Lesser-Black-backed Gull....

Best find today was a displaying Robin....never seen that before....two on a branch, a few inches apart....male was holding its head back, puffing up its chest similar to a Ruff, uffing out its upper breat and neck feathers, then turning side to side....the female was occasionally nodding......clearly a 'hello darlin, get yer coat'.....'ok'....scenario.....wonderful to see and in 20 years or more first time ive seen it.....
