An enjoyable visit today. A new species for the site and list this year.
Spring is sprung.....
Kicked off with Chaffinch, Greenfinch and Goldfinch in quick succession....
Went along the footpath entrance rather than over the gate...at the paddock a Mistle Thrush flew off, nicely from the middle...whilst a Song Thrush sidled along the side. Plenty of Blackbirds were present too...it soon became clear the paddock was full of Redwing with a sprinkling of Fieldfare and Starling....best view of Redwing this winter...
Heres a crud Redwing photo....
Many of the usual birds were around...Bullfinch, Tit species...
There seems to have been another clear out of ducks...no Goldeneye...no Teal...
12 Pochard were present...Shoveler, Gadwall, Grebes....1 Green Sandpiper was present...1 Water Rail squealed...2 Buzzard went over calling. A Grey Heron sat in one tree...two trees away a Little Egret was doing a disappearing act against the clouds.
65 Canada Geese and 135 Greylags were in the fields....put up by a helicopter they swooped around and passed just a few feet overhead as they returned to the fields....
.....a Green Woodpecker....
No stragglers in that huge geese flock ??
