I decided to do a warbler count today on my way round the full site....but on the way....and knocking the superb Nightingale off top spot as best thing on site....
Emporer Moth, Saturnia pavonia
I have seen these plenty of times in other peoples photos...but to find one was very exciting....!! It sat out in the open, colours ablaze....how do these guys not get eaten??
The Warblers....
Nightingale 10
Blackcap 20
Willow Warbler 2
Lesser Whitethroat 1
Garden Warbler 6
Whitethroat 26
Chiffchaff 30
Otherwise it was business as usual.....Kestrel made a re-appearance, havent seen one for a while....and some House Sparrows were around one of the hedges.
On the water the Common Sandpiper was still around the western-most pit, which has most potential for food for it....otherwise its the little bits of beach. The Terns have deserted but that was expected. And in fact the water was even quieter than the WeBS count a couple of days ago!
