Lull

...is this the lull before the storm....sunny, dry, crisp, cold, frosty....but heavy winds forecast over the coming weekend and in to net week....do the birds know?....

A meander up the east side and along the northern boundary produced....no metal kissing gate to start with....it was put in about three years ago...but a gap was left one side so the farmer decided to put aa post in to stop people walking round the gate....he ruined the gate by doing this as putting the post in moved the catch post and although it closed after this it was never really very good....and now the gate itself has gone....

I haven't been along this side of the site for some time and at the northern end they have cut a new path to follow the stream, the official path then heading off north across the scrubby/oak Jackdaw field....as usual at this point I turned left and more south westerly....there were plenty of Bullfinches around the site today, sitting out in the sunshine looking bright and ready to pluck off the top of the trees by a passing raptor...luckily Whetsted doesn't get a visit too often by a Sparrowhawk….

down across north field and the first Skylark singing way up in the sky....another was singing out in the south fields....

A Little Egret flew over....

A walk along the pits, heading west, didn't really provide much....the number of wintering Shoveler has been pretty poor.....around 15.....though the Pochard numbers have been around the usual 20 or so....

Two Egyptian Geese flew on to Island Pit though no other geese were around....

On West Pit the female Goldeneye continues residence.....cant really be for  much longer with only about 4 weeks to Chiffchaff arrival....

The return journey provided 9 Mandarin Ducks in their usual hideaway....
