Here.....22nd...
...better late than never....some say....
Whetsted GP visit.....
Just a check up...see whats around....not a huge amount to report.....the GW Egret is still awol….will it return?....no reports in the vicinity either...so possibly meandered off to the coast....the White-fronted Geese have gone.....so its more what isn't there....!
Other than that....1 female Goldeneye....20+ Pochard....very few Shovelers continues...150+ Greylag were in the fields south of the pits....
The farmer has done his best to ruin the ditch running north-south...or is that south-north.....he has been busy dredging with his little digger....so now the ditches have little vegetation in them....even most of the lump of reedmace has been removed.....however....this hasn't put the Grey Wagtail off...and the Stonechat pair have made a re appearance at the north end of the ditch and were also on the west side of the path.....so despite his best efforts the farmer hasn't put these birds off....maybe he could try a bit harder, im pretty sure, given time, he will....
The only raptor we saw was by middle pit....a female Merlin was sitting low down in some scrub and flew quickly over the hedge....we possibly put her off the 9 Bullfinches that were passing by.....
Skylarks and Meadow Pipits out in the fields....
…..and There….
A visit to Furnace Pond as reports of several bird species had come to my attention thanks to JK....so a couple of hours was rewarded with Brambling and Siskin....the Redpolls remained elusive for me today but hopefully will return in the next few days for another go....
