Summer Pits

0900 - 1100 warm, overcast, cool breeze NE f1

A meander at the height of the quiet period.....so not too much to report....Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps still singing with occasional Whitethroat thrown in....Yellowhammers still wheezing away....

Plenty of corvids following the tractor round the southern field as they took the grass away...therefore ruining may insects pleasure.....it being the height of insect breeding time.....still, those farmers know what theyre doing....

I seemed to come across more Stock Doves than Woodpigeons again, which is very nice....

The West Pit seems quite low water now and the weed is appearing on the surface....im assuming it the invasive one that has taken over many of the areas....

It also holds about a dozen Mute Swans which have been resent for at least two weeks....the pair on Island Pit still have 5 cygnets....

Highlight today was the Turtle Dove purring and sitting on top of a tree near the quarry....and the Spitfire went over....

A flock of 30-40 Goldfinches were south of the quarry....mixed adults and juveniles.....
