OK....frosty and clear morning....so....last minute decision to get out somewhere....somewhere I haven't been for a while too...would be good to visit....Rye Harbour....
This used to be a real regular site for me as I lived just a few miles away...the website was always up to date so plenty of information....but....I don't really know whats happened recently, they changed their website....and these days finding bird reports (updated every day in the past) are very thin indeed....shame....so its mostly just upping and going...so I upped and went....
Great Black-backed Gull
Certainly plenty on offer today too....arriving at high tide was pretty good....accidental, but...pretty good....
Jackdaws were already wheeling around the skies and everywhere Starlings were gliding and flocking......plenty of Skylark were calling, flighting and occasionally bursting in to song...Meadow Pipits in small groups.....
Flat beach....its a beach....and its flat...
Many birds were crowded on to Flat Beach....waders, plovers, ducks and a few gulls....there was even a Kestrel in attendance....
....some birds...
I wandered down to the front, along the Environmental road then cut across the reserve....I did have a short sea watch....but it was flat....calm....mirror like....in the extreme distance, some way off toward Fairlight, a raft of Scoters bobbed very gently....probably Common, maybe some Velvets in there...but at this distance....no confirmed identification....
....more birds.....
...birds...more of....
After cutting across the reserve I came across the bird of the day for me....a stunning male Red-breasted Merganser....stunning looking bird.....after viewing for a while I went off in search of a grebe which refused to be found, not just by me, but by several others too....no surprise really as there was lots of water around the reserve so it could have been almost anywhere.....
...yep...birds....
Heres a great little bird, maybe its me, seems to be harder to find...though today I managed to find at least 5...so...er....maybe not that hard to find...!
