 ....or....Socially Distanced Birding....

Met DH on site today for a Xmas meander round haivng hear a couple of Goldeneye has been spotted on site eaerlier this week.....saw 1 male and 2 females on Middle Pit....

0830 - 1130 cool to cold bright, sunny, little cloud SSE f1-3

...other than that not a huge amount around.....obviously the winter ducks are coming.....East Pit had a few Great Crested Grebes and a solitary Brent Goose.....which then appeared on the other pits, clearly looking around for its fellow Geese......later we found a solitary Greylag.....another one thats lost its friends...

Island Pit, which used to hold 70+ Shovellers had a few Tufted Duck, some Mallards and a solitary male Wigeon, although to be honest here this site never really has more than a few Wigeon at any one time during the winter and most of the winter they arent present....

Middle Pit, apart from the Goldeneye, had around 25+ Tufted Duck and 22 Pochard, a very good number for here....another few Great Crested Grebe was nice to see....Shoveller numbers were down last winter and today this is where we located 3....

West Pit had some Black-headed Gulls, more Tufted Ducks and a Lapwing....

....back past Middle Pit and a Common Gull had turned up sitting with more Black-headed Gulls...

In some ways it was more what wasnt around....no Starling, Meadow Pipit, Fieldfare, Redwing, Wagtails....
