Location, Location, Location...or not

0915 - 1215 cloudy, sunny, cool and warm....W f2-4

Out of the wind it was hot.....in the wind it was cold...onward...

Out of the wind in the warm glades and rides.....

Comma

Speckled Wood

Orange-tip, female

So I had planned to spend today starting to put locations of birds on paper....but the birds decided they didn't want to help out.....yesterday they were happily singing....today....maybe it was the cooling Westerly that just seemed to stop them....anyway.....it mostly didn't happen.....

A quick check on the Field Horsetail in North Field....

The Nightingales seem to be sorting themselves out....the 3 near each other have possibly spread out a bit, not quite within touching distance that they have been....there are now definitely 7 on site, though this could be 9.....I'm hoping to do a couple of early visits over the weekend to sort them out....

All the other warblers were present...though I found 4 Garden Warblers today....

The 'wildlife' over on North Pit was....fascinating....

..er...Red-breasted Extinguisher

...a nesting pair perhaps....

Who know why people do these things....I'm guessing some idiot had a great idea to take these...possibly steal...then walk them for miles out to the countryside and no doubt set them off...there really is no explanation that can cover it....

4 Herring Gulls were around...and the Cuckoo 'Guckood'...

Todays highlight though...a couple of Swallow had been around.....as I approached West Pit one went past....I followed it with my bins....to find 6 Swift above the trees and heading out over the field just south of the pit.....so I made my way quickly to West Pit....

The initial 6 out over the field moved back to the pit and were joined by a larger group....at least 20 in total.....great stuff....but not the end of the show....over the trees came a large group of Hirundines....most of the turned out to be House Martins....at least 35....within the group was a handful of Sand Martins.....

Last.....I have to report that the Woodlark have left site....no singing today....ah well...
