Two counties day....
....though not necessarily an early start.....first...a check over at Whetsted....
0915 - 1130 Bright, sunny, warm SW f1-3
How things have changed in a week...work just gets in the way....ahhh....but a visit today in hope of some new birds for the year....a Warbler count, me thinks....
38 Chiffchaff
6 Blackcap
...an excellent increase from 13 to 38 Chiffchaff on site....amazing...and of course, Blackcaps having been reported around Kent and Sussex it was really great to hear and see them again.....
Others on site....
1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, Bullfinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Yellowhammer, Song Thrush,, Blackbird, Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Jay, Rook, Wren, Dunnock.....im sure ive missed some...but the usual suspects present....
The pits have emptied quite alarmingly......not many Coots around though a good number of Tufted Duck remain, a few Shoveler, couple of Grey Heron and a Mandarin Duck was flying around calling.
Then off to Sussex....south of Tunbridge Wells to Broadwater Warren..
Sunny becoming hazy, warm but cooling SW f1-4
...a nice visit, not too many birds though but the bird I went for displayed, called and sang with gusto.....Woodlark.....it was happy to sit in a tree and I watched from distance as it went through its complete range of calls and song in the sunshine....fabulous!! Two more sang....3 in total....
3 Buzzards whirled and called moving around the site.
On the way home I stopped off at Tescos in Pembury. 1 Buzzard was heading in to town...
