...anyway...onward....I visited another potential gravel pit site not too far away....just off the A228, on the Beltring Road/Gravely Ways....the pits are sited just East of the railway line, and slightly East of that is a public footpath that runs north and south from the road.
Heading north the first bird I came across was Garden Warbler! A great result. Hoping to check out the pits I continued along the well trodden footpath.....I ended up at the River Medway and about turned to check out the site a little better.
2 Garden Warbler
8 Blackcap
4 Chiffchaff
5 Whitethroat
3 Nightingale (2 right by the footpath and all 3 sounding off really well)....
1 Great Black-backed Gull
I couldnt get to the pits themselves as they were very well fenced off. However, this small site seems to offer a good deal of potential and the totals for this site would probably be better than todays short afternoon visit. So I may try to pay an evening visit at some point....
But there is some rather bad news....
Himalayan Balsam
This invader seems to be spreading from the Medway end of the site....
