October 2021
Finally allowed abroad again after all the Covid panic....
I knew it wouldnt be the best bird watching holiday...late in the year, even for Greece...meaning sun up and sun down was late and early....didnt really get light till 7.30am so no birding first thing....and then sunset at 7pm meant no late evening birding.....
Made the most of the immediate surroundings....the garden of our first stop over had good the expected Sardinian Warbler....seen eventually....a few Blackcaps were around and eventually a Chiffchaff was found. Day three here saw a good influx of Blackcaps....migration in action....other than that....and several Hooded Crows the only thing to remark was a pair of Little Owls on a nearby roof.
The mountains didnt really provide anything new....occasional glimpses of raptors but nothing that could be identified....
One stop by the roadside found a Whinchat....very nice.
The two birds of the trip were both found on the same day....a Blue Rockthrush on the outskirts of a town and a Montagus Harrier.
Nice to bird abroad again.....in the warm....looking forward to the next trip abroad....
