0815 - 1120 cool, warming, some cloud turning to mostly sun but cloud later.
At the paddocks the usual Goldfinches were present and a Greenfinch was calling over the far side. A quiet period from there....not much singing at all....warblers quiet too.....
Finally picked up a Nightingale toward the top of the eastern path.....eventually I found 9....some were quite reluctant to sing and just making their frog impression noise....
Along warbler avenue, with the Nightingale there, I found my first Garden Warbler of the year singing and showing well....Chiffchaff there as well along with Blackcap and Whitethroat...plenty of all of these on site now. 4 or 5 Garden Warblers now.
I found my first Lesser Whitethroat of the year yesterday near Plumpton.....today was a real treat as i found 8 on site, several singing quite brightly and showing really well....
A Turtle Dove briefly purred near West Pit. A regular place for them.
2 Willow Warblers remain....maybe the third has moved on, its not the best site for them..2 Cettis were present, one at warbler corner and the other at the northern side of West Pit.
3 Mandarin Ducks flew past and I later found them on one of the pits.
Over West Pit 30-40 Swifts were feeding, in among them were a few Swallows and a solitary House Martin...first ive seen this year.
2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were on West Pit and later 2 Greater Black-backed Gulls flew west over Middle Pit.
A Sparrowhawk was flap-flap gliding high just south of the pits....not a regular bird at the pits....Common Buzzard are more likely to be seen and indeed several were around.
Plenty of Reed and Sedge Warblers along most pits now.
...of which....2 Cuckoos were calling...signalling the end for some poor egg....even more death knell was the bubbling female calls from two different areas of reed....the deed being done no doubt....
