From one tonne to half a ton

0615 - 0915 overcast, grey, slight chill, warming

A few weeks ago trudging across the muddy, wet fields it made my wellies in to one tonne boots...a few weeks later....its stopped raining....its been dry for a couple of weeks now....and the ground is beginning to crack...

...half a tonne….warbler count....

Chiffchaff 52
Willow Warbler 1
Blackcap 11
Cettis Warbler...1.....or 2....?

I investigated almost all of the site today....its proving hard going in places where the lack of people, me included, made difficult by the blocking up of ways on and off site...now means there no obvious circular route….also....the continued flooding in some places....despite the dried and cracked land in other places....means its a no go in other areas, so I wont find out what is passable there for a few weeks yet.....so I doing the thing I don't like doing, walking along the same areas there and back...not my favourite way of birding anywhere....

….view across North Pit to North Field....

Two fishermen are still at Far East, so im hoping when they go they clear up and in the meantime done disturb any arriving birds...its one of the best areas on site for warblers....

There are plenty of Stock Doves calling around the site at the moment, which is very encouraging and im pretty sure ive never heard this many settling in to the site for the breeding season, though of course they can be seen all year round here....

A Kingfisher went peep peep peeping by at Narrows by West Pit....a single female Goldeneye was on Middle Pit whilst 2 more were on West Pit.

Ive finally come across the Barn Owl again....its in a pretty secluded area that is not much visited....but I think it should be viewable hunting early mornings coming no doubt with a family to feed....hopefully....

Skylarks, Meadow Pipits, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Linnet, Bullfinch are around the site....I found 4 Yellowhammers today so hoping they are successful....

The new puddle...that is sadly disappearing fast!....still held 2 Pied Wagtails, 4 Meadow Pipits and 2 Reed Buntings....

Now....Cettis Warbler....im pretty sure there are 2 singing males on site....the usual one that always calls from the eastern end on the north side of Middle Pit....then there is the possible new one??….is it the same one that sometimes calls from Hidden Pit area?....was it the same one that was calling a few days ago from the west side of West Pit???...…….hmmmmm…...most of Whetsted really would suit Cettis, so I find it hard to understand why there aren't at least half a dozen if not 10 around the site....

The Water Rail was at Hidden Pit....and finally....

….a couple of unsung plants....

Red Dead-nettle

Groundsel
