0915 - 1115 Windy, overcast, cold
Thought I had better go to see whats happening....no movement on the development front by the ruiners of the pits for the next thirty years....so...onward...
Started quietly, but could soon hear a few Chiffchaff and Skylark over on top north field...its never easy being any bird I reckon....now the farmer has quit ploughing up their nest sites and the field is looking good its attracted the attention of 8 Magpies....still...I would rather have nature have its way than a farmer messing up the breeding season....
A couple of Meadow Pipits were also there....
I looked along the path that leads to the 'avenue of the warblers'....spring is upon us and summer just round the corner, but I reckon if im to reach it wellies will be the order of the day for some time....this pit has never been so full....
...yes...that's the path....and its quite deep....
The Grey Herons were up out of the heronry regularly...quite a number flying around, maybe 15 or so....
The 2 Goldeneye boys have bunked off....hopefully to return....leaving 3 females....
Its always great to get the returning birds....first up,, more Chiffchaffs.....then 12+ Sand Martins swooping over Island Pit....2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls have re-appeared on Middle Pit, their usual haunt....and….
Lapwings....
...three Lapwings were sitting on the south side of West Pit in their usual place....so....hopefully another breeding year for them here, west field is looking really good, great cover for chicks, damp....and im hopeful the gravel guys will leave it alone....
Whats around
17 + Chiffchaff
2 Buzzard
3 Mandarin Ducks
Treecreeper
12 + Sand Martin
Little Egret
3 Lapwing
3 Goldeneye
Mistle Thrush
