I decided to have a quick trip to the pits to check on the Lapwings....I found the usual 3 out on West Field....they have been there for a while so must be close to, hopefully, raising that chick or two...if they've got that far....
Buttercup field is looking good just north of the Paddocks....and there is a Lesser Whitethroat on the eastern edge....
Just south of the quarry area the field regularly gets flooded....though the farmer persists in sowing it....on the large puddle was 7 Mandarin and a few Mallards.....
I couldn't find the Turtle Dove near the wires but the one at Island Pit was purring.
This Common Blue was on Long Straight and was happy to pose...a Nightingale was singing strongly in the copse there....

Out on Middle Pit was the Swan family.....how many will make it...!?

With the rain the resurrection of the puddles along the track....definitely welly time again....the local midges have committed suicide in them....and plenty of Damselflies are making the most of them little knowing that in a few weeks they will be dry....well....assuming the weather cheers up...
There are good numbers of Demoiselles, especially near West Pit....

And heres a visitor....a migrant moth....Silver Y.....

Near the Quarry area there are usually a couple of orchid species....so I went to see if any were flowering...the Bee Orchids are just starting.....
