Someone told me long ago....

...theres a calm before the storm...
Have You Ever Seen The Rain, J. Fogerty

...and there was....

0630 - 0815 overcast, slight mist, brightening but then rainy, cool

......not so much a storm....there was a nice calm first thing....but what had been forecast as a dry, cloudy day soon turned to a rainy experience....and though I didn't have much time this morning it cut short the time I had....

I ventured over North Field in hope of...and found....

Barn Owl

A couple of Shoveler were on East Pit and the total on site was around 60 or so.....2 Mandarin Ducks were in flight.

A wisp of Snipe...9...took flight from beside Long Straight at the western end.  Another flew from Middle Pit, so 10  in total.

A Green Sandpiper was beside Island Pit and is a nice addition for the year.

On Middle Pit were the 3 Goldeneye as the male has now relocated to where the two females have been just about all winter.  2 female Pochard were there as well.

1
Yellowhammer

Two Yellowhammers are singing on the south side of West Pit within 100 metres of each other.  A nice singing competition on a gloomy day.  A Buzzard went over.

West Pit sort of brightening...just before the rain....

Tufted Ducks on West Pit

I could not locate the Smew anywhere....perhaps they were  hiding very well but have been visible all the time so far....so perhaps they have finally deserted.

Probably a Puffball sp....possibly Earthball...
