The Sixth Great Mass Extinction

Welcome, one and all, to THE END....over dramatic?...who knows.....

.......but I guess warning signs have been there for some time....over the past few days there has been some research released to show that man has pushed over the edge of the precipice and it WILL all end in...well...the incredible crunch that happens when you hit the bottom of a cliff I guess...

When I read this quote.....

'We are sawing off the branch we are sitting on'

...its hard to know, laugh or cry...it just reminded me of Homer Simpson hitting all the branches of the stupid tree he had just fallen from.......

anyway....heres the link....

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/humans-under-threat-mass-extinction-093123395.html#dLGi0Sc

I always wonder exactly what it will take for humans to sit up and take note....maybe there are just so many of them to ever reach some kind of agreement...and perhaps, being more realistic, the people in charge....the leaders...the governments...have clearly failed time and again to sort anything out, why would anyone be interested now...and how the hell will some bloke in a field in the middle of nowhere (pick a country of your choice) ever make them do something when all he knows and is interested in is making his cow go faster....

Then I think of the ignorant people in a supposed modern country...ours for example....!

..........too busy reading the Sun or watching Big Brother....no wonder we are in trouble...and maybe its just as well that the majority will go to the end completely ignorant and unknowing, just that last minute, literally, panic....!

Maybe we should pity the poor sods that CAN see it coming and know that nothing will ever be done...probably because it will cost too much and whos gonna vote for that anyway.....

Perhaps the real lesson, if humans can grasp it (unlikely)...is that, yes, we are animals just like all the other animals on the planet, we are not separate....and that we, like the rest of the animals, dont really think beyond short term....we are all, collectively, in a minority...or is it a majority?.........of short-termnists??

The only good news that I can see for me...from a selfish point of view....is that I will be well out of it by the time the proverbial really does hit the pan....

  1. Your last comment has been mine for a few years now. At 68 I've had a pretty good lifetime of being at one with wildlife and the countryside in general. But now, watching it all shrinking day by day, as the government still insists that we need more and more and more houses to be built and the armagedon that you suggest, gets nearer, I'm glad that I'll have dropped off the perch before it happens.

  2. Graham,
The sooner we humans are eradicated from this planet the better, even if it's in my lifetime! The world will look after itself quite nicely without us :-)
