Thats bright........

....so said my wife when I turned on my new mercury vapour 125W bulb.....and thanks to European stupidity these bulbs will soon dwindle in supply as they are not made any more....I dont think anyones come up with a new really bright bulb yet....so im going to get in a good supply that should see me through (as long as you look after them they last ages anyway)....

So....yes....the trap was out again for any passing moth to take a fancy to....

Heres the first Large Yellow Underwing of the season....they can turn up in good numbers sometimes...but these two are really fresh and looking good...

Large Yellow Underwing, Noctua pronuba

Note the superb purple sheen on this specimen....

Large Yellow Underwing, Noctua pronuba

Another moth that can turn up in even bigger numbers....Heart and Dart...again this looks a really nice moth, well marked...not bad for a 'brown' moth....!

Heart and Dart, Agrotis exclamationis

....and heres one that competes in the numbers game...Dark Arches....

Dark Arches, Apamiaa monoglypha

It was obviously a good evening for fresh moths....this specimen was amazingly russety coloured...

Flame Shoulder, Ochropleura plecta

The moths above are, I suppose, the more common species that turn up regularly through the season.  So thats why I have highlighted them now....so at least they get a mention....as its usually species like this next one that hog the 'headlines'...

Peach Blossom, Thyatira batis

...and for good reason...they dont turn up too often and its a good looking moth...!!
