Autumn

The mornings are cooling....a sure sign of Autumn coming on....I left the house in the hope of Whinchat with so many reported....

Saturday 31 August
0650 - 0840 semi overcast NNW F1-2

Robin was the only singer in the village!  Quiet!!  A Collared Dove came by and a few Starlings put in a show but were soon off again.

Blue Tit, Herring Gull (2 W), Woodpigeon, Crow, Chiffchaff (singing!), Jackdaw, Wren, Green Woodpecker, Great Black Back Gull (1 adult 1 juv), Mallard 4, Coot 76, Tufted Duck, 10, Black Headed Gull 30, Little Grebe 1, Whitethroat, Hobby (probably all 3 but no views, just calling), Willow Warbler, Canada Geese 12, Swan 2, Shoveler 4, Great Crfested Grebe 6, Moorhen 9, Lesser Black Back Gull 2, Magpie, House Martin, Goldfinch

The pits were very quiet, hardly a squeek from anything, mostly calling and little else, but so few birds I gave up after less than a couple of hours with my expectations and hopes dashed, a Whinchat free zone...well...never mind....the main thrust of migration is yet to come and thinking about it that Chiffchaff has been here a few days short of 6 months singing constantly, so well done to him...very well done.

  1. You might not think your list is up to much Graham, but there are some mouth watering species on it ( for me that is) Grebe's, Swans, Tufted Duck, Coots.....oooh if only........ :-)
