Back to the pits

0730 - 1030 blue sky, sun, warm to hot, clouding

Just about three months since I have been to the pits.....other things have needed my attention....but its great to get out and do some birding.....DH dragged me out....and it was well worth it....

A couple of Buzzards were out across the fields south of the pits, an immature bird calling.....

Lots of Chiffchaffs around today and a few Blackcaps chakking.....2 Lesser Whitethroats was great to find along the straight.....then at the far end a number of Common Whitethroat......

At East Pit we found a Kingfisher.....another was found at Island Pit later....or the same one.....who knows...

The S bends by Island Pit provided a calling Hobby sitting in the willows.....not many gulls around, a few Black-headed, a couple of immature Herring....later we found a Great Black-backed and on our return journey a Lesser Black-backed....

At West Pit about 4 Lapwing (this years breeding success perhaps?) were amongst the 100 Greylags....we also bumped in to MA.....

We found a few chattering Reed Warblers but all refused to show themselves....

The return provided more Swallows, having found a pair at the paddocks in their usual haunt.....then a good number of House Martin turned up.....

Back at Island Pit a Ringed Plover put in an appearance....
