0500 - 0815 cold, light breeze ENE, overcast
Bit of a change...dark and overcast at 0500 and the only birdsong is a distant Nightingale....the main cacophony today started around 0525....bit of a lay in bed for some of them as it was bloomin' chilly...
….all that hot weather and thinking its summer....now April has shown its not done with being cold....ENE for the past couple of days and chilly with it....and so it should be that the Swallows turn up....4 of them....with 2 Sand Martin for company....
Warblers on the increase...
Nightingale 12
Whitethroat 6
Willow Warbler 4
Reed Warbler 6
Cettis Warbler 2
Lesser Whtethroat 1
….Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs as usual...
A flyover Tawny Owl was nice at the quarry with another calling near by....there was also enthusiastic calling near North Pit....so plenty going on with the Owls.....
2 Lapwing were at West Pit though one was soon off back to the nest....which I still haven't located but I have a reasonable idea where it is....
An unusual sighting for this time of year was a Herring Gull there as well....
Highlight today was Cuckoo....only called a few times.....but its a start...it was, as usual most years....somewhere over on the north side of the site and at one point im guessing over near the Medway river as it sounded quite distant....
