Whetsted dull...but exciting...!!

Ah....it must be June....dull weather commences....

Actually....most of the month has been good really, but today....

0915 - 1130 dull, overcast, grey slightly brightening, occasional spots of rain, cool

So the plan was to find the Lapwing over on West Field to see if anything has moved on...

I knew there must be a little on around as the parents have been flighty and panicky the past couple of visits....this time I knew where it had to be.....a quick search....and there it is....first breeding success around Whetsted for possibly ten years....the field they are in is ideal could easily be converted to a little 'reserve' area for breeding birds such as these....now...would the farmer oblige....and other jokes..!

Around the site its that time of year....pink, adult Long Tailed Tits were accompanied by brown juveniles.....I found a group of Great Tits and Blue Tits containing adults and juveniles....A juvenile Whitethroat was looking very soft as was a juvenile Blackcap.....one of the highlights was a juvenile Lesser Whitethroat.....

2 Lesser Whitethroats were singing and must be heading for a second brood perhaps.....2 Nightingales were singing as well which is nice as we head toward mid June when they will cease no doubt.....

A Turtle Dove was purring at the metal bridge, its been around this area for some time so assumed breeding.  Stock Doves were around as well.

Over Middle Pit and West Pit were the usual Swift group....about 30 or so....and House Martin group....about 20 or so....2 Swallows went by....

So....lots of success and good stuff going on....
