In early morning...

....we awaken from
The sound of engines running in the night,
And then we start the engines of the day.
We speed away into the fading light.

0645 - 0945 overcast, clearing to sun and blue sky, cool to cold, S-SW f1-3

And let it be the liquidy notes of the Willow Warbler....what a delight....somehow you think its never going to arrive....the warbler angst...phew!  Chasing the warbler is possibly more worrying than chasing any dragon!

A full site walk today.  Just about everywhere is muddy and waterlogged.

So, todays warbler count:

Chiffchaff 26
Blackcap 7
Cettis Warbler 1
Willow Warbler 1

A few other treats today too....2 Nuthatches, the tree descenders....and 1 Treecreeper, tree ascender.

4 Mandarin flew off Island Pit and some Teal were calling, but I would think the number left on site is no more than a few, same for Shovelers as most are now gone.  1 Little Egret flew distantly and 3 Gadwall have arrived on Middle Pit.

Returning to yesterday....PD visited site shortly after myself and found a Little Gull and Swallow at the west end of site....nice birds.  Annoying to an extent as I have been checking the gulls for the past two weeks or so since the Little Gulls appeared at Sevenoaks Reserve.  Now there are few, if any, gulls on site....passing Herring Gulls or an occasional Black-headed.  Well done PD.

I did try to catch up with the Little Gull later afternoon but it had moved on.  In the meantime new equipment has arrived at the quarry.  A digger and a site-light generator....interesting to see if they are going to do some night work over there?? I was hoping after the other guys had finished the demolition job it would remain quiet on site for some time, but it looks like work will continue.
