More Is Less(er Whitethroat)

0900 - 1130 bright, sunny, some cloud, warm SE f1-2

Its not just the weather thats warming up a bit....!  Nightingale still singing, though somewhat on-off, till about 1030....so I was able to detect 4 for sure though there are definitely more on site as some of these singers are in new places.  I will be swooping on site this Saturday morning for an early count up...if I dont get more than 4 I will eat....er.....something nice...a big cake!

Its always a good day to get some new species coming in for the season...but theres other big news too...well...I think its big news and its not a bird...!  My wife would be impressed with that actually.....and its something I havent seen for about 17 years....and here it is....

.......?

Do you know what it is yet?

....not a great picture, had to use my phone...

....four reasonable patches in one area....

Moschatel (Adoxa moschatellina)

Okay....possibly not the most exciting thing for some I suppose....but im quite pleased I managed to identify it for start...though I did have to make sure with some backup....its a plant of ancient woodland....and I have spent the last couple of Springs walking right past it....doh!  Well, better late than never as they say....right....back to the birds....ahem!

So a visit to site to see if anything new has arrived....so heres todays Warbler count...

Chiffchaff 42

Willow Warbler 4

Blackcap 28

Nightingale 4

Whitethroat 8

Lesser Whitethroat 4

Sedge Warbler 1

And.....1 Cuckoo, 4 Swallow, 3 Buzzard, 2 Mandarin Duck, 7 Mediterranean Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull

Last but not least....Mallard....I spotted this female about a week ago with at least 10 chicks, maybe 12.....but now its just 6....
