...and back again....

So...back to Whetsted for a Warbler count up...though it turned out a bit quiet today....

1000 - 1230 chilly but warming, clear, bright NE f2-4

Nightingale 2

Chiffchaff 34

Whitethroat 13

Willow Warbler 4

Blackcap 21

Lesser Whitethroat 3

Sedge Warbler 3

...now...I did say 11...with one more slightly further East off site, making 12 Nightingale....however...I did notice today that where one of my previous birds has been there is a bird singing this morning....so maybe its made it back a bit later than expected....will have to have another count up soon to see if this one is number 12 for the site or if one of the others has moved....

Other birds seen....

Robin, Chaffinch, Wren, Mistle Thrush, Blackbird, Kestrel, Crow, Dunnock, Woodpigeon, Jay, Blue Tit, Goldcrest, Skylark, Great Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Goldfinch, Green Woodpecker, Stock Dove, Bullfinch,  Swallow, Jackdaw, Buzzard, Yellowhammer, Starling, Reed Bunting, Magpie, Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail.

On the water.....

Great Crested Grebe, 1 Shoveler, Mallard, Canada Goose, Coot, 3 Mandarin Duck, 1 Greater Black-backed Gull, Mute Swan, Tufted Duck, Grey Heron, Cormorant, Little Grebe, Moorhen, Greyalg Goose.

And....the good the bad and....well...here goes....

This, below, is what I refer to as top field, its toward the eastern end of the site above one of the pits and can hold a few hundred geese during the winter months....

I bumped in to the farmer the other day near here, moaning on about he couldnt get on the field...I quietly celebrated this as there are at least three pairs of Skylark on here and have been for a while now....however...

Im guessing the cuttings above is his way of testing to see if he can get his equipment on the field...im guessing to plough it up....and im also guessing..well, actually I know...with no thought to the Skylark that no doubt he heard and possibly saw when he was inspecting the field the other day....so much for a 'guardian of the countryside'.....
