1 Common Sandpiper....obviously hard to say if it was one of those from the other day...but hey....im not complaining....great to see....!
Good numbers of Greylag Geese, 227, were initially on the top north field but disturbed by something flew down tot he pools where it was easier to attain a count. 2 Kingfishers was a great addition...calling loudly along the south bank of the pits.
The other real highlights were the 2 Shoveller, 2 Swallow over heading West, 2 Lesser Whitethroat making their way along the scrub on the southern side of the pits and the Turtle Dove sitting on the conveyor at the quarry.
0645 - 1000 Overcast but clearing to 50% cloud cover, warm, zero wind increasing to F2-3 gusting F4 SSW
Other birds.....
Starling, Woodpigeon, Robin, Crow, Linnet, Blue Tit, Jay, Yellowhammer, Blackbird, Jackdaw, Collared Dove, Feral Pigeon, Chiffchaff (loads, but couldnt find a Willow Warbler despite them leaving the country in huge numbers at the moment), Green Woodpecker, Wren, Great Tit, Skylark, Blackcap, Whitethroat (loads), Goldfinch, Magpie.
On the water....
12 Mallard, 29 Tufted Duck, 133 Coot, 9 Great Crested Grebe, 9 Moorhen, 16 Mute Swan, 7 Little Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Greater Black-backed Gull, 13 Black Headed Gull.
No WW here either Graham. I normally pick a few on passage in August, but just one all month this year
