Boom Boom

....no....not a Basil Brush moment....but a great visit to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve for...

Awayday 4

0630 - 0900 Overcast, clearing slightly, cool, SE f3

Back in to Sussex...and my old stomping ground...Rye Harbour....now im in Pembury its not possible to get to this great reserve as often as I used to....which is a real shame as its really been on the rise with its profile for a few years now....

Anyway...enough of my bias....

A short visit as I was off to Hastings to meet my brother to try to find Yellowhammer.  He is not a birder but saw one, fleetingly, recently, and is interested enough to go out and try to find one...so I accompanied him to a known spot...more of that later....

Back at Rye...

A visit to the viewing point....certainly proved well worth the ten minute stop...

Bittern....BoomBoom....nice...as usual with these birds it was nowhere to be seen.  But these birds have been Booming at Rye for a few years now and several, up to 5 or 6, over winter here too.  Always worth a visit.

Black Headed Gull, Oystercatcher, Cettis Warbler, Crow, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Wren, Curlew, Grey Heron, Teal, Chiffchaff, Robin, Cormorant, Herring Gull, Coot, Tufted Duck, Shoveler, Mute Swan, Marsh Harrier, Jackdaw, Shelduck,, Blue Tit, Greylag Geese...and the Bittern.

On to the reserve itself....which included a nice ten minute chat with Barry Yates, the reserve manager for many years now, and whom was my boss for a while.

Blackbird, Goldfinch, Mallard, Magpie, Feral Pigeon, House Sparrow, Starling, Moorhen, Redshank, Skylark, Avocet, Pied Wagtail, Dunlin, Golden Plover, Grey Plover, Ringed Plover, Great Black Back Gull, Med Gull, Brent Geese, Wigeon, Sandwich Tern, Common Gull, Ruff, Egyptian Goose, Linnet, Meadow Pipit, Song Thrush.

Off to my brothers and a wander along the Combe Haven past Filsham Reedbed.  A stroll in to the Reedbed produced little till 2 Swallows turned up.  Very nice!

A further walk along the river for a while to find a possible Yellowhammer failed.  But the sun was out by this time and it was a very pleasant stroll there and back.
