Having spent my free day ringing, well, a few hours in morning, on Sunday....a waste really....it was nice and cold and snow on and off during the week....come the weekend it warmed up....so plenty of birds around but very flighty and not too interested....so...
I figured dropping my son at school and heading out....
0915 - 1100 cold
So...what was around...it was quite lively as soon as I exited the car....maybe this later visit thing is better....huzzah....
Great Tit, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Robin, Crow, Woodpigeon, Starling, Bullfinch and Greenfinch all around the car....Green Woodpecker, Song Thrush, Kestrel, Fieldfare, Redwing, Blackbird, Wren, Dunnock all soon followed.....Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming, as they have been for a few weeks now....Goldfinch, Feral Pigeon, Long Tail Tit, Magpie and...great....Skylark....
In the fields....just to the south of the pits....77 Greylag Geese with a good number of Woodpigeon,, a sentinal Grey Heron...a bunch of Corvids......a number of Black Headed Gull....around 350+ Fieldfare and 140+ Lapwing....nice...!!
On the pits....
2 Mute Swan, 10 Mallard, 5 Great Crested Grebe (2 displaying), 6 Little Grebe, 28 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 74 Tufted Duck, 132 Black Headed Gull, 20 Gadwall, 29 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 24 Shoveller, 2 Goldeneye, 8 Pochard, 6 Teal, 2 Water Rail, 1 Common Gull, 1 Herring Gull, 1 Little Egret, 2 Canada Geese.
....a fine visit.....
I can but only dream of seeing some of your Duck species graham - I do get Goosander though!
