Better late than never I suppose....

Arrived rather later than I hoped on site due to my little boy not being well...though it was the way he ran happily bouncing in to the doctors surgery and the rather incredulous look on the doctors face that really counted....!
Onward.
1100 E - ESE F3-4, cool, overcast brightening later, some rain
Setting off from the car it was obviously quieter from my usual start of a couple of hours earlier.  Blackbird alarmed away as I crossed the bridge toward the entrance to Moat Farm.  House Sparrow and Goldfinch joined in as did a Robin.
As I entered the orchard it now has become clear why they cleared the scrub away from the entrance on the right.  They have now put in place a wooden fence, barbed wire on top and rabbit fencing along the bottom. Im trying to get my head round this though.  The new fencing goes about 200m on either side.  Obviously the fence itself must be to keep us public out....but its the rabbit fencing thats the blinder here.  Maybe its me.  They are obviously going to bury half of the fencing itself as its at right angles to the upright.  So obviously they want to stop things digging or entering the orchard.  Rabbits? Dogs??  I know they arent the most intelligent of animals but if they wander a couple of hundred metres along they will simply be able to walk through open fencing or indeed the wind break of trees.  Maybe ive missed something.
Anyway. Peculiarities over onward we go.  Starling, Woodpigeon and Fieldfare all popped up  with Chaffinch calling well.  A Crow was the first Corvid of the day.  A Green Woodpecker yaffled in the distance.
By this time I had reached the northern side of the orchard.  A Magpie floated across the field along with a Rook.
Starting off across the fields toward the pits 2 Mallard were in the ditch.  Several Skylark sang me across the fields and a Meadow Pipit called very briefly.  Jackdaw finally appeared.
At the pits a Wren warned me away from some undergrowth.  46 Coot, 48 Tufted Duck, 22 Cormorant, 7 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Little Grebe, 5 Moorhen, 9 Mute Swan, 1 Little Egret, 70+ Black Headed Gull (quite panicky and moved from pit to pit so hard to finalise a number for sure), 3 Common Gull, 3 Goldeneye, 5 Gadwall, 4 Pochard, 18 Shoveller, 15 Teal, 1 Water Rail.
A Chiffchaff was at the pits again, showing rather better this time though still moving quite fast.  4 Lapwing were out in the field looking back toward the orchard.  Bullfinch and Great Tit seen in the scrub along side of the pits.
A Pheasant called in the distance as a couple of Jays passed by.
Nothing new appeared on the return journey until I was approaching the southern side of the orchard when some Crows cawing made me look up - a Buzzard was circling, stalling above me.
Arriving back at the car several Collared Dove appeared.
