Over 40

0545 - 0900 frosty, cold, warming in sun, clear

That's the trouble you see.....go messing with the clocks and putting them forwards and now its dawn crack o'clock around 0530....so the last visit was in daylight at 0545, this time....not really.....but....its all good as it means we are getting there...wherever there is....

Chiffchaff....as I have found before....are not the first birds out of bed.....so when I started off I missed several of the usual chiffers but listening mostly to Blackbird, Robin and Wren.....

After about half an hour the Chiffs chimed in....todays warbler count....

Chiffchaff 40+
Blackcap 8
Cettis Warbler 1

The usual high count for Chiffchaff on site is around 50....so its definitely nearing the peak.....yet again the Willow Warbler was missing....so I presume, as many of these birds do, its moved on....so I await the next wave when the site will likely end up with two or possibly three on site....

With all the action to come in the next three weeks when it will be warbler central....its interesting that the site is still performing with winter birds....4 Goldeneye remain on West Pit....the 2 males displaying now.....

Goldeneye…..

2 of the fishermen have moved from East Pit to Far East Pit...have they cleared their site.....well...9 out of 10....mostly yes....just this bit of foil there....

….however....on the bund....

….obviously I cant say it was them...but its a rarely visited part of the site by anyone....this isn't going to save the planet any time soon....

A Cettis called from the north side of Middle Pit.....the pit itself now home to just a few Shoveler and Tufted Duck....

West Pit seems to be where the action is mostly....the puddle on the south side is drying out fast but still attracting birds....7 Pied Wagtails today with 2 Reed Bunting and 4 Meadow Pipit...

On the pit itself....excitement....

One of the breeding Lapwing....the other flew past....so still 2 present.....

An Oystercatcher....only the second record for the site for me....

The usual few Cormorants drying in the sunshine....

A Water Rail called from Hidden Pit a few times.

There are 2 Little Egret on site at present, so this could be a breeding pair.  Now I know where they hang out I can hopefully keep an eye on the site.  This would be excellent news.
