Broadwater

0630 - 0815 - warm, misty start but clearing to sun

Just over the border in Sussex...it started like this....

...misty....

Cant recall ever taking a photo of a Wren when not in the hand whilst ringing....however...this little chap...or chapess….sat up happily in the brightening day....

Wren

….and these guys were singing all over the site.....a lovely little trickle of descending notes that really does say.....Summer.....

Willow Warbler

Eventually the sun broke its cover and drove off the mist....as it was doing so I caught this Turner type shot....

Of course, it wouldn't be a visit without Woodlark singing and displaying at this time of year....two duly performed their magic song from posts and flypasts...

Woodlark

Its always amazing to find how 'early' birds get on with things....as humans just start to think about going outside (well, most of them, apart from us birders who have been out early all year long, cold or hot!)….anyway....I came across a pair of Stonechats and a pair of Linnets....both males and females carrying food so clearly feeding young already.....still...I suppose if youre going to get two or three broods sorted by the end of Summer theres no hesitation....

Stonechat female...bit washed out in the sun....

Stonechat male...having delivered the food hes off for more...
