...bit of a moody sky over North Field yesterday...
So...to today...
0730 - 1030 initially light rain, breaking to clearer skies, some sun, warming SW f1-3
Today, as per the last two visits....no other warblers other than Chiffchaff...I found about 10...though this was not a full site visit....
Several Yellowhammers singing, a couple in new places so hopefully this means an increase in numbers. Skylarks singing and chasing on North Field.
I have yet to find the Barn Owl since the work started at the quarry, as he was favouring that end of the site and I he carried food off south of the quarry area....hopefully they are still around.
I found a splendid male Linnet out West where there was also a Kingfisher on Small West. A Little Egret was the only real highlight from Middle Pit, Shovelers are now down to just 12, 2 Pochard as well....so I'm counting the Tufted Ducks instead....70.
...one thing is for sure...there is no shortage of water
around the site at the moment...
Highlight was Sparrowhawk. Not a common bird at all at the pits....one was seen by DH a week or so ago, the first sighting for the year as far as I know....so catching up with one was rather nice.
I think I have missed 4 days visiting the pits this month due to the weather. Heres to a good April!
JK advised me that there was a Wheatear over at Pittswood, Hadlow....WB's site. So I went over to have a look round. Sadly I didn't have my scope on me. Heres a couple of photos taken on my phone through my binoculars...
Wheatear
Wheatear is a bird I don't get at the pits, theres just not suitable habitat really....short grass is not a habitat around the pits.
