So...back to Whetsted for a meander to see if anything much has been going on....and what started as a normal day turned in to....
....on the pits most things remained as they were a few days ago...Goldeneye was one female, though 3 had been reported over the past couple of days....the Teal have finally returned to their usual place at the eastern end of Island pit, given away by the calling....somewhat difficult to spot as they tend to spend much time behind the willows and reeds....
I met GS at Middle pit and stopped to have a discussion about visits to sites etc....behind us a commotion erupted...definitely a raptor calling....we turned to find a large bird of prey avoiding a smaller one....it immediately became apparent the larger bird was a Peregrine....being chased and driven by a Merlin...it would have been nice to see the initial contact....however....they ducked and dived along the southern boundary of the pit before the Peregrine decided to head south with the attendant Merlin continuing its course of action....good stuff...!!
Anyway, the list from today....
