A quick out and about at Whetsted Pits to blow out the cobwebs of being stuck indoors too much over the past week or so and to get this years list moving...and continue the hopeless photo campaign...
Goldeneye and Shoveler
With trips to France and Portugal already lined up later in the year I'm hoping for a few interesting birds to be included on the list....a pretty good total for me last year mostly due to no ringing activities....however....this year I'm hoping to return to ringing so this will probably reduce the amount I'm out and about looking at birds....
From a ringing perspective it will more than likely be new sites all round....my last summer site will not be available this year and my winter site has had many trees removed so will be looking completely different for the next few years. So will have to see what sites turn up....
It will also be an interesting year, and future years, for the pits themselves. With the transfer of management from Lafarge to Tarmac, the continued removal of aggregate from the quarry area and the possibility, over the coming years, of more site disturbance may all bring interesting times ahead....
So...back to todays quick visit to get the lists going.....
