Warblers go Fourth

0900 - 1230 overcast, cool but warming with some sunshine, occasional light rain W f2-4

A four warbler day...fabulous.....and great company on the way round with DH...always a good chat and a bit of a laugh.....

Well it wasn't the weather we had yesterday by a long way...but never mind...it is what it is....the occasional light, misty rain was somewhat annoying for the glasses wearer....but it didn't last long and the sun did try to show itself a bit later....

I was certainly hoping for Blackcap today as it was getting close to last years arrival date and I was certain they had probably arrived earlier....I have tried being on site as much as possible this Spring so far and will continue to do so....but I was quite surprised to get Willow Warbler before Blackcap.  However, this was only by a few seconds....!  Having heard WW we stopped in the hope it would show...after just a few seconds the Blackcap male appeared, no need for binoculars it was that close and gave good views...though brief...the WW continued to sing and very briefly popped in to view...

Warbler count:

Chiffchaff 57
Blackcap 5
Willow Warbler 1
Cettis Warbler 1

This is the highest number of Chiffs I have counted on site....having reached just under the 50 mark last year....however...I will admit that last year I wasn't out as much and probably didnt count as much....but still....im pretty impressed with over 50....there must have been a pretty big push across the Channel the past few nights as they have been very clear....

....and I had better make a mention of the Cettis Warbler which seems to have settled in to the damp, scrubby woodland on the northern side.....

Better not forget the other birds.....duck numbers seem to continue to decrease....less Shovelers on site and certainly less Tufted Ducks today....and no winter visiting ducks to be found....a Little Egret was out in the ploughed field south of west pit and we managed to find 2 Teal on east pit....

A grand tour round....
