The Whole of the Moon

You saw the whole of the moon,
          I spoke about wings,
                 You just flew.....
The Whole of the Moon, The Waterboys

A great sunrise when I drew back the curtains having laid in bed for an extra 20 minutes!  Oops.  Arriving on site the very distant, slight, layer of cloud was going pink and orange.  Out west the whole of the moon glowed.  I just dont know how people can lay in bed and miss sunrises.  On the other hand im glad they do!  I wouldnt want to share this with hundreds of people!!

0615 - 0800 clear, frosty, chilly, cloud building from NW to 70%, no wind

A quick visit.  Just to make sure I wasnt missing out on a warbler arriving!  Having heard tale of Sedge Warbler at Rye Harbour yesterday I checked out the reedbed....with no luck.....still, its a little early I guess....

No count today, not time.

So, what was around on todays zoom round....

Dunnock, Robin, Woodpigeon, Crow, Chaffinch, Song Thrush, 2 Fieldfare, Chiffchaff, Great Tit, Blackbird, Wren, 4 Blackcap, Feral Pigeon, Blue Tit, Jay, 6-8 Yellowhammer, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Magpie, Goldfinch, Green Woodpecker, Kestrel, Long Tail Tit, Reed Bunting, Skylark, 3 Grey Wagtail, Linnet, 2 Pied Wagtail, Bullfinch, Treecreeper, Starling.

On the pits:

Canada Geese, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Coot, Greylag Geese, Shoveler, Grey Heron, Gadwall, Pochard, Mute Swan, Moorhen, Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Cormorant, 2 Mandarin Duck.

Surprise of the day was the 2 Fieldfare....stragglers I guess.

Highlight of the day was the two Great Spotted Woodpeckers flying, criss crossing together.  Did they mean it?  Who knows....but it looked great and lots of calling from both male and female.

Definitely not the highlight of the day was the moron continually shouting for around ten minutes after his dog.....try training it!...what is it with dog owners who seem to think they have no responsibility to train their stupid animals.  Still, I suppose it just shows they are even more stupid.

  1. Funny how some bird watchers rarely admit that they have bad habits that at times could be classified under the "moron" label, twitching being one example.
