Well...not so much of a day...just an hour....and not really much of Away really...only over to Broadwater Warren....though I suppose it is Sussex...however....
1100-1215 WNW f3-4, cool
Not much happening when I arrived. Very quiet. A few of the usual suspects singing and calling....Wren, Robin, Coal Tit, Dunnock, Crow, Woodpigeon, Blackbird, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Great Tit, Chiffchaff, Buzzard, Jackdaw.....
I wandered across one of the heaths, as they are divided in to sections by footpaths. This produced one Woodlark flying over, calling briefly. This was the bird I had come for. I was hoping it wasnt going to be the only sight I would get.
I wandered around for a while, trying to make every call in to either a Woodlark or Tree Pipit (the other bird I came for today).
I was about to give up and do the short distance back to the car when several Woodlark appeared and started singing. One in particular gave rather fabulous views, perched on top of an Oak.
In total definitely 5 birds....possibly 6.
Feeling rather pleased that a new bird for the year was well and truly ticked I headed back....and then a pair of Stonechat appeared. Another tick for the year.
Not bad for a quick hours birding.
