My head is reeling but I dont even wonder why
On the wings of a Nightingale I'll fly....
On the Wings of a Nightingale, Everly Brothers
Its hard not to be political about the situation that has developed at Lodge Hill and the Nightingale population.
A SSSI....apparently you can build all over these if there are mitigating circumstances....so whats the point then? Why give any area this status when it means nothing as it will simply be ignored??
Over 1% of the UK Nightingale population breed here....that is massive....according to figures the decline has been over 90% since the 1960's.
There are 10 badger setts, 19 bat roosts....the Duke of Burgandy butterfly has been found there....
They propose to make a Nightingale friendly site in Essex to replace it...what the hell is that all about...surely they should be making this site AS WELL...not instead of....when the population is in so much trouble....why should Kent lose this precious jewel....
....is this all just about austerity of the flora and fauna too....??
The whole building thing has cross party support of Medway Council and now it is up to the Government to make the final decision. Im sure we all know what the outcome will be. The decision isnt likely to be taken until after the General Election. And this leaves you with the power to vote the right way...whatever that way is....
Sure....environmental issues arent ever top of the pile when it comes to making a voting decision....people like to think they will be richer....their property worth more etc....and who really cares about the environment anyway....
Every time we have an election they always chime out rubbish about the environment and their 'green' credentials...what a load of hot air....does anyone ever believe any of it??....
If the decision is made prior to the election it will be Eric Pickles...apparently a keen birdwatcher...so lets see if his green credentials come to the fore....
I suggest that you go to Lodge Hill this May....and enjoy a miraculous sound....you may not be hearing it again in Kent....
....lastly....has anyone told the Nightingales they can up-sticks and move 50 miles north....will they be given maps....
as for me.............my head is reeling but I dont even wonder why...........!!!

Its a sad situation mate :-( Politicians only listen when they hear the sound of the cash register! My vote is staying in my pencil, the right not to vote is just as valid as the too vote, Bo**ocks to the lot of 'em!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Warren on this one, I've had a gutful of voting for promises that don't appear and won't be voting this time. Here on Sheppey the whole length of Capel Fleet is SSSI, SPA and Ramsar status and yet it's plundered weekly in winter by duck shooters. We also have regular visits by the fox hunt and beagle packs, all hunting in the normal way despite an alleged ban.The only thing that interests poloticians these days are housing and hideous green energy sites and as far as Lodge Hill goes I doubt you'll get a decision until a Party can't be touched for another five years..
