Are you sure you want to take that football?

Last visit of 2014 I should think.  Looking forward to what the New Year will bring, plenty of cold weather probably!  And I cant wait!!

This visit was no more than an amble across to the pits from Five Oak Green, which I mostly do these days when my son is around - and so it was this time.

NE F2 gusting 4, Sunny, occasional cloud, cold

Taking a football along to do a bit of birding....well....I suppose it wasnt an official attempt at a visit, being the usual wander through the orchard, across the fields to the pits and there I get the chance to look at the first three pits as they are easily accessible.
All I can say is that I hope this isnt the start of my son becoming interested in playing football, I for one dont want to be standing on the touch line in the cold when I can be out birding in the cold.

On the way to and from the pits:

Woodpigeon, Starling, House Sparrow, Robin, Fieldfare, Jackdaw, Blackbird, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Crow, Long Tail Tit, Green Woodpecker, Pied Wagtail.

On the pits:

128 Black Headed Gull, 1 Common Gull, 1 Herring Gull, 1 Mute Swan, 5 Mallard, 1 Goldeneye, 42 Coot, 19 Tufted Duck, 22 Gadwall, 5 Wigeon, 8 Teal, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Pochard, 1 Water Rail, 1 Grey Heron, 21 Cormorant, 1 Common Sandpiper....and bird of the day....1 Lapwing

  1. Better he takes up football than stuck in front of a PC all day, much healthier.

  2. I had 18 of your ''Birds of the day'' here Graham, and they would have been my birds of the day too, had it not been for a Wigeon that turned up!
