...well....more than last time out at least....I may have managed to say it was WeBS last time out, but actually it was today....I must be losing track somewhere.....
0500 - 0700 overcast, warm, WSW breeze, rain by 0700
Out of the car and first bird today was Chiffchaff closely followed by Song Thrush....looking at the sky it looked heavily burdened. Off we go anyway....
Jackdaw, Crow, Wren, Green Woodpecker, Woodpigeon, Yellowhammer, Blackbird, Kestrel, Turtle Dove (4), Magpie, Reed Warbler, Great Tit, Hobby, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Skylark, Dunnock, Goldfinch, Feral Pigeon, Linnet, Chaffinch, Swallow.
Quite a short list today. Must be that indecisive time of year with birds almost not being able to make their minds up....the main accompaniment today was Yellowhammers as they managed to provide an almost continual song therapy from one end of the pits to the other....very nice. And Turtle Doves have been very on-off during visits, but today they all seemed to try to make up for it by purring most of the time making it easy to count them.
On the pits:
43 Mallard, 74 Coot, 9 Moorhen, 8 Tufted Duck, 13 Great Crested Grebe,m 3 Little Grebe, 20 Mute Swan, 3 Greylag Goose, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Kingfisher, 7 Black Headed Gull, 5 Herring Gull.
Warbler count:
Chiffchaff 6
Whitethroat 2
Blackcap 3
During the visit it had drizzled occasionally so I had decided it would be a reasonably quick visit, luckily I was approaching the car when it decided to rain quite hard...so it was home time anyway.....
No Yellowhammer or Turtle Dove here this month Yet Graham :-)
