People

If it wasnt for people...so they say....all would be well....heres a snippet from the RSPB newsletter about, mostly, Broadwater Warren....

First.....people and food....

The Exmoor Ponies have settled in well at Broadwater, and are a magnificent sight out on the open heath. However, we have noticed that they are approaching visitors more than we would like and it’s important that they remain semi-wild animals. We’re concerned that their behaviour may be an indication that visitors are feeding them. We have had reports of someone bringing bags, possibly of food, into the reserve. If you do see anyone feeding the ponies please let us know. Feeding the ponies can make them seriously ill; it can make them very pushy and possibly aggressive to visitors and also means that they won’t do the job we need them to!

....and inevitably...the dawg off the lead.....

Even more alarmingly, we’ve had two separate reports of dogs off leads chasing the ponies across the heathland. This is extremely serious and we welcome any information about these types of incidents.

..how pathetic a bunch they are...self centered, me me me types....bah!!

...and finally....why go to the tip when you can drive round the lanes....

There has been a spate of fly-tipping at both reserves with a particularly bad incident at Broadwater in which the fence around the northern grazing paddock was cut. The ponies were inside the paddock at the time but fortunately didn’t escape. If you see any fly-tipping taking place please report it immediately to the police. The volunteers at Tudeley have created some dead-hedging along Pembury Walks to try to thwart the criminals. A really good website to use for reporting many problems is fixmystreet.com. We appreciate all the help we can get with issues like this, as we simply don’t have the resources to be everywhere at once.
