Meanwhile, the tweets of this particular day for me this morning...
0600 - 0840 W f1-2, zero cloud increasing to 20%, cool
It was quite cool when I arrived in Five Oak Green, with the majority sound being Song Thrush and House Sparrow. Great Tit, Chaffinch and Collared Dove soon joined in.
Collared Dove appeared as did 2 Cormorant flying over SE.
Robin, Blackbird and Wren came to life. 3 Herring Gulls flew over E with 2 more later heading W.
A few Crows circled round and a Starling flew by heading to the village.
Well across the orchard by now Woodpigeon and Jackdaw had made the appropriate noises and sightings as Skylark came to the ear and a Green Woodpecker made itself known.
The flighty morning continued with 4 then 5 Canada Geese over SE with 4 turning back to the pits.
Approaching the pits Chiffchaff and Blackcap sang from the shaw just in front of the pits.
Whilst scoping the first pit two Dunnocks appeared. Continuing to scope 4 Swallow appeared with 1 Sand Martin, eventually the score was 6 to 3. Excellent!!
An Egyptian Goose was in the fields alone.
The dead-nettles are all out...heres Red Dead-nettle...
Wandering round the pits 2 female Yellowhammers meandered by and some Blue Tits went by feeding. A Jay flew out of the woods to the W, changed its mind and went back. At least 3 Grey Heron were seen this morning. there were plenty of Great Tits around the pits.
W of the first pit two male Yellowhammers were fighting on the ground briefly, never seen this before. Followed quickly by finding 2 male Blackbirds having a punch up.
Linnet, Magpie became members of todays list followed quickly by another warbler....Willow Warbler...a rather nice surprise. The Spring excitement builds as they all come in.....!!
2 Sparrowhawks were seen, Goldfinch and a Kestrel. Reed Bunting, Feral Pigeon and in the orchard on the way back was a Meadow Pipit.
Warbler count (though not quite a full site visit):
Chiffchaff 18
Blackcap 12
Willow Warbler 1
On the way back to and through the orchard there was a rather splendid Cirrus cloudscape..these pictures dont really do it justice...
I love the sound of the Willow Warbler Graham, I hope one passes through my patch this spring and gives me some song :-)
