Nearly up with the Lark...

....and to avoid any dread ending for any moths that werent in the trap I was out of bed at 0550.  However, I think it should have been a little earlier....it was quite light by then....
So, post moth trap emptying (see my garden blog http://wild-at-fifty-four.blogspot.co.uk/)....I decided to pay a visit to site to top up with thrilling Chiffchaff and Blackcap song....

0630 - 0840 Clear, bright though cool, SW f1-2

Arriving so late there was already a host of action at my parking area....Collared Dove, Magpie and Buzzard were the initial trio.  Song Thrush, Blackbird, House Sparrow, Starling joined in and I headed off across the orchard,.
Crow, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Woodpigeon, Dunnock, Goldfinch were merry and bright.  A Fieldfare called, so I can only put down 1 though im pretty certain it would not be alone.
Pied Wagtail was around the office gate as usual, a Wren chipped in competing with another no more than 10m away.  Green Woodpecker called.
Across the fields the Skylark were singing well and there was plenty of action, even more so on my return journey, a total of 10.  3 Mallard were on the southern edge of the field by the poplars.
Off to the west I could count 34 Mute Swan in a far field, though they had all left when I commenced my return journey, most by then being on one of the pits.  Several more were found on the pits already.
3 Greylag Geese were near the Swans with 1 then a group of 3 flying over east.  2 Canada Geese accompanied the 3.
Chiffchaffs were singing around the site.  I counted at least 5, though probably more.  Im hoping for a full site visit next time, just not enough time today!
Great Tit, Robin, Reed Bunting joined the list.  On the pits:
19 Coot, 62 Tufted Duck, 6 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Little Grebe, 12 Mallard, 2 Pochard, 1 Moorhen, 2 Manadarin Duck, 2 Grey Heron, 7 Cormorant, 2 Goldeneye (1m 1f), 1 Kingfisher, 3 Black Headed Gull.
Great Spotted Woodpecker drummed and a bright yellow Yellowhammer sat in the morning sunshine.  A Meadow Pipit pipped, 2 Grey Wagtail lead me back to the gate.

All hope was lost for Blackcap.  I couldnt find it on my way to the pits so on my return I stopped for a few minutes hoping it would resurrect on the north side of the bridge.  Having given up I wandered over the bridge to find it relocated to the south side in someones garden!!

It will be dark again early on when the clocks go forward, so we can get out at the crack of dawn again :-)
