.....or....theres a Peacock been-a-screeching during the past couple of visits...somewhere off to, where else, East of the site....considering they come from the East I suppose its appropriate....though it always amazes me as to why anyone would want one....
Rather sultry this morning....humid, boringly overcast just like yesterday, ENE wind blowing, just like yesterday...though I suppose just like most of this summer....im assuming that the odd weather we have had this year, including this wind of which the larger percentage is from the North or East...is...er...odd...and that it really is more the norm to have South Westerly winds....maybe its the Easterlies that have blown the Peacock in....
The point has been reached, I believe, where, comparatively, quiet descends upon the UK (in the form of birdsong)...that good ol' Chiffchaff that has been singing since early to mid March has just about given up after four months of endless chiffing and chaffing...maybe its finally got tired....the ratio of song to contact notes to alarm has changed, just recently it must have been 80% song and the rest contact or alarm....now it seems its 85% contact notes, 10% alarm and 5% singing...though the songsters seem a bitbemused by the lack of response....
Everything seems to have given up on the possibility of breeding, Swans, Coot and Moorhens that seemed to be sitting on nests up until recently have now all moved off and no young seem to be anywhere....though a number of Corvids were hanging around the edges of the water....there was a Blackbird family hanging around and there have been both Blue and Great Tit families to see. Good numbers of Whitethroats seemed to be around the past few weeks. The Lesser Whitethroat family were at the quarry. So some success I suppose. With the appearance of a Blackcap in my garden a couple of days ago, the return of the Gulls and Geese to the pit, a Kingfisher last week we are now moving to migration
...and so it was...quiet....on-off warm and cool....
